What is oil sludge?
Oil sludge is also called oily sludge, oily sludge sand, and ground oil sludge. During the drilling process, the oily sludge brought out when the drilling rig is replaced and the casing is extracted is left around the well site. These oily sludges are wrapped with various mud and sand and debris. There is no time to deal with them on site, so they are temporarily piled up at the well site. The more they pile up, the more oily sludge is produced. The oily sludge comes from deep in the drilling formation. The oily sludge contains a large amount of benzene, phenols, anthracene, pyrene and other toxic substances with bad odors. If the oily sludge is not treated, it will not only damage the soil and pollute the environment, but also cause a waste of resources.

Production of oily sludge
Production of oily sludge (oily sludge sand): Oily sludge is an oily solid waste generated during oil extraction, transportation, refining and oily wastewater treatment. It is one of the main sources of pollution in the production process of oilfield enterprises. Oily sludge is of various types and complex in nature. The oily sludge generated in the process of crude oil extraction mainly comes from the ground treatment system. The oily sludge generated in the process of oil production wastewater treatment, plus the flocs formed by the water purifier added in the sewage purification treatment, equipment and pipeline corrosion products and scale, bacteria (corpses), etc., constitute the oily sludge. When the oil storage tanks of petrochemical enterprises store oil products, a small amount of mechanical impurities, sand, soil, heavy metal salts, and heavy oil components such as paraffin and asphaltene in the oil products are deposited at the bottom of the oil tank, forming tank bottom sludge.
Large oil sludge treatment method
At present, there are many treatment processes for oily sludge in China, among which oil sludge thermal analysis treatment and oil sludge hot water washing treatment are more widely used. The oil sludge thermal analysis treatment scheme adopts a closed high-temperature liquefied gasification method for treatment, which has a very high energy consumption, difficult crude oil collection, low treatment efficiency (about 5 tons/hour), and relatively high treatment cost.
The oil sludge hot water washing treatment scheme: it has low energy consumption, low investment, crude oil recovery, high treatment efficiency (about 20 tons/hour), economical and efficient, and easy to put into production. The oil sludge hot water washing treatment method has become a more widely used oily sludge treatment scheme.
Oil sludge hot water washing treatment process
- Use sorting equipment to separate stones, weeds, tree roots and other debris in oily sludge.
- Use heating tank equipment, stirring equipment, and dosing equipment to make use of the different physical properties of oil and water specific gravity, and stir water temperature and chemicals to fully separate water, oil, mud, and sand. The oil with a small specific gravity is attached to the top layer, the water with a low specific gravity is in the middle layer, and the mud with a large specific gravity settles to the bottom layer.
- Use three-phase separation equipment. This step can also be done through oil-water separation equipment and mud-water separation equipment. The purpose is to achieve water, oil, and mud three-phase separation and crude oil recovery and water reuse. Mud and water enter the mud and water treatment equipment, and the water can be reused in the heating tank or further treated by water treatment equipment.
Oil sludge treatment equipment and oil sludge treatment system
